Church growth in Rwanda

Counselor Moses at Gahini clinicI’m sitting here in Rwanda at Gahini clinic having just had the nicest conversation, and thought I’d pass it on.

The counselor here Moses is doing a great job. He was telling me he is so thankful to the clubfoot clinic because the numbers of Christians in his church are growing because of it! A few months ago he had invited a couple of mothers to church, and when they came he got them to come up the front with their children to show everyone what had been done with the help of the clinic and Jesus. After church many people approached him and said not only would they spread the word about the clinic, but that they were amazed at what God had done and would bring more people to church! The church is growing.

Clubfoot Success in Rwanda

Some really exciting news regarding CURE Clubfoot Worldwide and Rwanda.

Thanks to a partnership between CCW, CBM International and the Ponseti International Association, Rwanda now has a countrywide network of clinics capable of providing early clubfoot intervention through the use of the Ponseti Method. All Rwandan district hospitals have officially been trained in this method that uses techniques like casting to straighten clubfoot without the use of invasive surgery.

This coalition of organizations has provided each hospital all the materials needed for early clubfoot identification and treatment, from cotton to cameras. In all, 732 clubfoot  patients were treated from January to August 2010! The hope for 2011 is that all children born with clubfoot in the country will be identified and treated at the critical early stage.

CCW, CBM and the Ponseti International Association are also working with the country’s Ministry of Health to educate the Rwandan population about the issue of clubfoot. They plan to inform all Rwandan social and health workers of the deformity through posters, as well as educate the whole country through TV and radio.

We are thrilled to see the great work being done in Rwanda through the CCW program.  It serves as a shining example of the success of the CCW model that’s being used throughout the world!
