Humbled by the Recognition

Leikum Bithanu, a CUREkid from Ethiopia

As many of you know, our CUREkids program has been up and running for over a year now. To date, over $725,000 has been raised, and, as a result and even more impressively, over 1,150 child have been healed through CUREkids.

That in and of itself is amazing recognition of the hard work and effort that many of us pour into this project each and every day. So, I wanted to start off by saying “thank you” from the bottom of our hearts as the CUREkids team. We couldn’t do any of this without God opening doors and providing possibilities beyond our imagination. Of course, God has also brought us our supporters, and we are immensely thankful for each of you that follow, pray for, and give to support the children of CUREkids. CUREkids has been an amazing journey so far and continues to surprise and astound us practically every day! Read the rest of this entry »

We met recently with the Vice President of the Dominican Republic to discuss a more permanent form of medical licensing of our U.S. surgeons than is presently possible in the country. This meeting was arranged by Mercedes Small, a past CURE Clubfoot Worldwide coordinator for the region. The Vice President is a very patient and kind man who listened as we explained our situation and our solid commitment to the Dominican Republic. It was a very productive meeting and a fun adventure!!

Building the foundation at CURE Uganda

For the past ten years, the CURE Children’s Hospital of Uganda has grown and evolved. I’m certain that Dr. Scott Harrison and Dr. Ben Warf shared a vision for where this hospital might be in 2012, but I’m also confident the success of the mission in Uganda has surpassed everyone’s expectations. The statistics for the last decade alone are staggering: 40,000 children seen, nearly 10,000 life-saving surgeries provided, and more than 8,000 people with a closer relationship to God. Add in the advancements made towards the treatment of hydrocephalus and the impact CURE has made as a significant employer in Uganda, and it’s easy to understand why we’re proud of our team here.

This past year we hit our ceiling; we’re out of room. Read the rest of this entry »

The Situation in Honduras

Ruth Castro All countries, at some point, face problems that affect the well-being of their inhabitants. Honduras has suffered many such times, especially since the coup d’état in June of 2009.  Socially, politically, and financially, Honduras has not been the same since that event, and we have seen our country deteriorate.  Elections in 2010 held some promise for change, but we, as Hondurans, have not seen much of it yet.

For NGO’s like CURE International, the situation has a significant impact. The type of people we serve are those who are underprivileged, and their access to the necessities of life becomes a challenge. Read the rest of this entry »

Hank Parker reels in support for CUREkids

Hank & Martha Parker and their grandkids

Hank Parker, host of Hank Parker’s Outdoor Magazine on NBC Sports, introduced his affiliation with CUREkids on today’s show.  For those of you not familiar with “the rod-n-reel answer to Michael Jordan,” Hank Parker won his first national championship for bass fishing in 1976, then went on to win many other awards and championships over the next decades.  Inducted into the Bass Fishing Hall of Fame in 2003, Hank now hosts his own fishing/outdoors television program, nationally televised on NBC Sports and the Pursuit Channel.

Today, Hank introduced his viewers to CURE.  The Hank Parker Community is currently raising support for Adriany, an 11-year-old girl who is scheduled for treatment at CURE Honduras. Today’s episode of Hank Parker’s Outdoor Magazine will air again on NBC Sports on Friday, 3 February, at 12:30 PM EST.  Be sure to check out his show and CUREkids community!

Keeping your resolutions

IMG_7128 Its January, the beginning of a New Year, and many people are working hard to keep their resolutions.  In general, it seems like most resolutions are difficult to keep. Statistics say that 45% of people make New Year’s resolutions but only 8% of people are actually successful in keeping them.  If you have made a resolution, I apologize for the bad news. But don’t worry; there is still hope, because CURE is here to help. Read the rest of this entry »

100,000 : 1

I’m excited to announce that as of January 23rd, we’ve reached our goal with the team at ToonUps and A Better World.

It took merely a month for us to reach 1,000,000 positive expressions in the game. Each 100,000 expressions helped one child who likely would never have walked without the intervention of CURE. Take a minute to puzzle that through. Simply by playing a game and sharing your positive thoughts and encouragement through it, 10 children will have their lives changed in a dramatic way. Forever.

Here at CURE, we pray asking God to show up in ways only He can take credit for. As I see it, this is one of those ways. It’s not every day that God brings us an organization to partner with. Nor is it every day that an organization will provide a way to help heal children simply by expressing yourself and sharing positive emotions with others! Yet, again God saw fit to provide for CURE, and for that, we are grateful. ToonUps is planning to officially present CURE with their donation in early February. We’re incredibly thankful for the new friends and partners we’ve made at ToonUps and look forward to partnering again in the future!

Keep up to date with the kids being healed through A Better World on the A Better World community page!
