CURE Construction Update
Construction workers laying block, hammering nails and painting walls have become almost as common as nurses and doctors at our CURE hospitals over the last few months. There are many construction projects going on within our CURE network. Once they are completed, our hospitals will be able to reach even more children with life-changing care!
We’d like to give you an update.
Niger
The most extensive project by far is the CURE Niger hospital, which is scheduled to open in the middle of October. Final touches are being made on the buildings and the landscaping. An artist recently painted murals in spaces throughout the hospital. Essential equipment such as operating lights and the x-ray machine is currently being installed.
Here are some recent photos of the hospital…
Kenya
A number of projects are keeping construction workers busy.
Excavation and foundation work has begun on a new conference training center at the hospital. Additional construction has started on a new orthopedic technology building. Nearing completion is a renovation project turning an old operating suite into private patient rooms.
Malawi
While a project to expand the hospital’s operating suite is close to completion, construction to add another wing has begun.
Zambia
A building dedicated to the treatment of ears, noses and throats is nearly done. Other projects, which include the addition of an operating suite, are well underway.
United Arab Emirates
Plans continue for the construction of the new hospital in the U.A.E., with an estimated completion date in April 2012. The contract for the building of the hospital has been awarded to John Sisk and Son Construction Ltd., a large construction firm out of Ireland.
