CURE at Passion 2010 in Atlanta, Ga.

This blog entry comes courtesy of Joel Worrall who was at the 2010 Passion conference in Atlanta, Ga.

Last week, CURE had the privilege of participating, along with 11 other specifically chosen ministries, in Passion 2010 in Atlanta, Ga. as part of its Do Something Now mission environment. Nearly 22,000 college students  gathered for this conference focused on challenging a generation of students to invest their lives in what matters most.

Myself and a half-dozen other members of the CURE team were there connecting with college students, sharing with them the work of CURE International and asking them to participate with us by giving a $50 gift toward cleft lip and palate surgeries in Kabul, Afghanistan. We also asked each student who gave a gift to write a message of hope and love on a card that we will share with a child.

Our goal was to raise enough money to fund 100 surgeries. God blessed us with enough to fund 111 surgeries! Then on the last day of the event, someone – moved by the generosity of the students at the conference – offered to double the total amount of gifts given at the conference! The final results are still being tallied, but suffice it to say that hundreds of children will receive life-changing surgery because of the love displayed and action taken in Atlanta last week.

It was a tremendous privilege to represent CURE at Passion 2010 and to connect with the thousands of college students who came to our booth. We had an opportunity to share CURE’s work in not only Afghanistan but around the world and to participate with God in His work in the hearts and lives of these young adults.

That’s great to see young college students taking such a strong stand towards helping others. It’s quite nice to see that. I think it’s always important to give back whenever you can.
